In May, the AAOS Board of Directors approved the Technology Overview for Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) for Osteoarthritis of the Knee.
The Technology Overview was designed to evaluate efficacy and differences in outcomes with PRP as compared with other treatments or placebo. In all, 648 abstracts and 261 full-text articles were systematically evaluated to identify the 54 highest-quality manuscripts available that met the project’s inclusion criteria and addressed its PICO (patient/problem; intervention; comparison; outcome) question. In addition to AAOS, representatives from the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons participated in the development of this Technology Overview.
In December 2021, the AAOS Board approved a Technology Overview for Concentrated Bone Marrow Aspirate for Osteoarthritis of the Knee.
